Faced with an immediate deluge of surprise, questions and outright criticism, Cook has been quick to justify this huge career move by citing the "obvious parallels" between Country, Western and Hip-Hop: "Many of the themes in Country music are directly lifted from the rich Blues tradition in the US, and as you know, the Blues completely influences all facets of Rock, Soul, and of course Hip-Hop. I suggest that those who are shocked at this are less than informed as to the commonality in all music. People really, really need to educate themselves before they pop off." "Knamean?" he added. When asked if his new position would impact his social/political activism, Dave gave a vehement reply in the negative.
